Aquatic Sciences Laboratory - Meet the Manager

Trey

Greetings,

Thank you for taking the time to explore our web site. I hope you find it informative. I welcome all comments, suggestions or questions you may have.

I am a native Texan from Eagle Lake, a small town on the blackland prairie west of Houston. I earned my B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Mariculture at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Prior to moving to Montana I was research assistant at the University of Texas at the Austin Marine Science Institute Fisheries and Mariculture Laboratory in Port Aransas. Over the years I have acquired knowledge on several aspects of freshwater and saltwater systems. Now, since I needed a break from hurricanes, I have the opportunity at the Aquatic Sciences Laboratory to build knowledge of coldwater systems.

So far, I’ve instituted a number a modifications from changing the name of the facility to adding new tank systems. In the end, I have one clear message: if you have a project idea, we’re willing to help make it a reality. The Aquatic Sciences Laboratory is a dynamic research institution serving the greater research community, not only in Montana, but also regionally for programs that may benefit from our facilities and services.

While the main focus of the lab is fish research, it is open to any aquatic-based project. For example, we are currently housing research on two snail species, one endangered and one invasive. Our most unique feature is our isolation which makes the lab ideal for aquatic invasive and nuisance species research.

Once again, thank you for visiting, and I hope to be in contact with you soon.

Regards,
Trey Kucherka
