2007 Montana State University Water Conversation - August 21, 2007
10:00 am - Noon (Mountain Time)
This will be an abbreviated version of our 2005 "Water Summit." In our conversation we will:

  • Review the water expertise we have at MSU and identify gaps

  • Summarize the water curriculum

  • Review recent research needs surveys, overview major water research initiatives at MSU and identify upcoming opportunities

  • Discuss our water-related outreach - who currently does what, plus needs and opportunities.

There's a lot to talk about! Please plan to join MSU water faculty and administrators in room 108 of the Ag Bioscience Building for a rich discussion. The coffeepot will be on at 9:30. Don't hesitate to contact Gretchen Rupp with any ideas or questions beforehand.

Annual Conferences
Whirling Disease Symposium
Annually, the Whirling Disease Symposium provides a forum for presentation of papers by key scientists, workshops on research protocols, and collaborative discussions to prioritize research direction. This conference is organized by the Whirling Disease Foundation and sponsored, in part, by the Montana Water Center.

Past Conferences
2006 Northwest Water Policy and Law Symposium - September 18 - 20, 2006
Bozeman, Montana was the setting for vigorous deliberations on water policy issues that have become particularly pressing in the Northwestern states in recent years. The symposium was a two-day gathering to explore solutions in three areas that challenge decision-makers: surface-water/ground-water interaction, water infrastructure management, and conflicting land- and water-use laws. Meeting participants listened to case studies and problem statements from the experts, then developed recommendations for state and local policy-makers in the Inland Northwestern United States. AWRA 2006 Summer Specialty Conference - "Adaptive Management of Water Resources" - June 26 - 28, 2006

This conference, sponsored in part by the Water Center, brought together the key managers, policy makers, researchers and "on the ground" practitioners that currently are designing and implementing water resources-related adaptive management programs. For more information, visit the web site.

Western Wetlands conference
The conference, sponsored in part by the Montana Watercourse of the Montana Water Center, focused on successful approaches and strategies for overcoming wetland protection challenges which are unique to the west: water shortages and variability, limited regulatory protection, and lack of information. For more information, visit the web site.
